Editor in Chief, Online - Vancouver

They maintain a working culture that welcomes and promotes new ideas, giving free room for trial and error.

They are now seeking an experienced and well-connected senior editorial professional or journalist to take over the leadership of the editorial team. The primary objectives of the Editor in Chief are to: 1) guarantee editorial standards 2) expand the stable of authors and establish their website as the place for a writer to launch their career online, and 3) develop the website to become the de-facto destination for readers to find free, authoritative and well written non-fiction articles.

This executive position will report directly to the company's president.

Your tasks:

• Be responsible for the multi-disciplinary editorial vision and standards
• Lead an explosively growing number of great writers and enable them to thrive on the web
• Lead and manage a team of twelve experienced and highly qualified full-time and part-time editors and editorial staff members
• Together with our international team, develop the company to become the leading website for non-fiction readers worldwide seeking reliable advice
• Maintain the site's contextual structure and continuously develop the style of the website
• Establish and maintain relations with the media, writer associations, journalism schools and other business partners
• Help develop and initiate improvements to the international and product strategies

Your profile:

• Graduate degree, preferably in journalism or literature
• 5-7+ years of professional experience, e.g. as Editor in Chief, senior journalist or editor for non-fiction publications such as magazines or magazine-style news websites
• Extremely high level of writing/editing competence and credentials
• Experience in directing and guiding freelance writers
• Online publishing experience and in-depth experience with websites, search engines and SEO techniques
• Highly energetic and committed: you thrive working with a large variety of writers in a fun and fast-paced corporate culture
• Well-established network within the media industry
• Native English speaker
